Beer Bread

Mmm, beer bread.  It really needs no introduction, does it?  I got this recipe a few years ago from the Holy Family (Catholic school) cookbook that my brother and sister-in-law gave to me.  I’ve been making it for years and it never disappoints.  And the best thing is that there is no kneading or anything.  Simply mix it up and bake it!  I’ve tried it with many different beers over the years (my husband is a major beer fan!) and I’ve found that really, the cheap regular beers work best.  The dark beers don’t really do great in this recipe.  It is truly fabulous though, try it soon!

3 cups self-rising flour
1/2 cup white granulated sugar
12 ounces beer
2 tbsp butter


Preheat oven to 375.

In a medium-sized mixing bowl, mix the flour and sugar together.  Add the beer and stir until completely mixed in.  Grease a bread pan and pour the batter in.  Bake for 55 minutes.  When only three minutes remain, remove from oven and rub the butter over the top of the bread and return to the oven for the remaining 3 minutes.  That’s it!
