Chocolate Chip Cookies With a Hint of Orange

It is always nice to have cookies in the cookie jar, and it’s a lot more fun when they are cookies you’ve baked yourself.  I haven’t bought cookies at the store in a while, I’ve been making a variety of different kinds at home.  It makes me feel good to know that my family has homemade treats.  Today was a funky looking day so I decided to try to create something new.  I knew I wanted chocolate chip cookies, but I wanted a little something extra to them.  And I didn’t want to get out in the funky weather to go to the store.  Thus, Chocolate Chip Cookies With a Hint of Orange was born!

Chocolate Chip Cookies With a Hint of Orange


2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour

1 tsp. baking soda

1 tsp. coarse salt

2 sticks butter, softened

3/4 cup granulated sugar

3/4 cup brown sugar

1 tsp. Mexican vanilla

2 large eggs

1/2 pkg. semi-sweet chocolate chips

1/2 pkg. milk chocolate chips

1/2 tsp. orange zest


Preheat oven to 375.

In a small bowl, mix the flour, salt and baking soda.  Set aside.  In a larger bowl, cream together the butter with the sugars and vanilla.  Mix in the eggs, one at a time.  Add the orange zest.  Slowly mix in the flour mixture.  Don’t overbeat.  When well mixed, stir in the chocolate chips. 

Make small balls and place on a silicone mat on a baking sheet.  Cook for about 12 minutes or until golden and delicious looking!  Cool on a wire rack.

The Verdict:  While these did not come out as “fluffy” as I would have liked, they had an excellent taste.  I messed up and instead of placing my butter in the microwave to soften, I melted it!  So that is where I went wrong.  And I think next time I will add more orange zest for a more pronounced flavor.  But overall, delicious!!
